Protecting Your Home With Infrared Sensors

Infrared alarm sensors are one of the most effective type of alarm system. It can detect the motion of infrared producing sources, which are usually human or animal bodies. . Although all things emit some infrared radiation, things that are at a relatively higher temperature (such as living things, or fires) are the more significant sources of infrared radiation. Infrared radiation can be “seen” (detected) using especially designed electronic devices.

In an Infrared Alarm System, a detecting device is placed strategically in inconspicuous places in a room or hallway. It sends out infrared beams on the space where they are being placed. The beams are sent out in layers, with the uppermost layer having a straight range of about sixty feet and a sideways range of about thirty-five feet. The center layer of infrared beams goes through the middle of the space, while the lowermost layer sweeps the area near the detector. These beams can be used by the devices to calculate and determine the infrared temperature of the area where the beams land on. If there is a sudden change of temperature, the system would then analyze this change to determine if it is enough for the alarm to trigger. So, If a stranger walks too close to a valuable object protected by the infrared alarm system, then it will make an alert due to ones body heat and infrared system. But this would not make an alert sound. This system could not alert.
