7 Home Security Tips to Live By

  • Install a layered security in your home, wherein there are about three to four layers of security to either slow down a burglar or at most discourage him entirely of trying to break into your home.

  • Don’t leave a window open unless necessary. When you’re at home, you can leave a window on the second floor open, but you’ll still have to remain cautious.

  • Clean up your backyard or your lawn and make sure there is no tool present for a burglar to use in breaking into your home. These include ladders, tree branches, and many more.

  • When you’re going out, leave your home as if there’s still someone inside. Don’t draw all curtains down and don’t shut all the lights off. Empty homes are perfect victims for burglars.

  • Turn off the ring tone of your telephone when you’re away. The constant ringing of your phone will indicate that no one’s home.

  • Of course, it’s much better to have someone stay at your home when you’re away. This way, someone is really at home to watch over and you won’t have to keep the pretense that someone’s in your house even when’ there’s none.

  • Cooperate with your neighbors. Ask for their assistance whenever possible. You can ask them to collect your mail for you and watch over your home when you’ll be away for a long time.
