Turn To Your Neighbors

Monday, April 9th, 2007

Home security advisers have repeated now and again the significance of getting help from your neighbor whenever security is in the picture. the increase in break-ins and burglaries have fueled more caution and cooperation among neighborhoods.

Sunshine Coast has especially taken another step in the citizens’ home security habits, establishing bonds and cooperation among neighbors.

This is taken from the Sunshine Coast Daily, an article by Amy Remeikis:

“It’s great to see that with such large growth, the Sunshine Coast has retained such a strong sense of community, with 90% of people surveyed saying they know their neighbours and 86% feeling comfortable enough to ask them to look after the place when they are away,” Mr Sopinski said.

“And where there is that stronger sense of community and neighbourly cooperation there is less impact from crime.”

“Neighbours are your best alarm system,” Inspector Lewis said.

“Getting to know your neighbours is one of the best things you can do because they are your eyes when you are not home.”

Home Security Included

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

Home security has increasingly been a great concern for many residents. Back in 2005, residents make up for about 30 percent of the security systems market and it has risen to about 33 percent during 2006 (National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association, TX).

This makes it significant for home builders to include a home security system in all new homes.

C.V. Perry, for example, now includes Brink’s home security systems in all its new homes. Installation of the home security system and its wiring is easier when the home is being built. It is also less costly. Installing a system in an existing home is said to be twice as costly as adding it to a house still being built.

Home builders usually give home buyers several choices. Buyers can either hire an installation company for electronic monitoring, or hire another monitoring company. They also have the choice of using wireless individual devices like motion sensors and detectors. Systems can be upgraded with smoke detectors, more motion sensors, and cameras, too!

The lifestyle of both parents working and houses left with no one present has also led to a boost on the home security market. This is another reason for the involvement of home builders in the home security businesses.

The security systems market is still currently expanding, and is projected to increase about 3.8 percent each year. Both existing homes and newly built homes contribute to this increase. With the continued rise in break-ins and crimes, who could stop the market from being as competitive as it is now?

PEARL Escape Ladder

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

One of PEARL Protected’s concern was that most home security companies offer the same thing, making it hard for one specific company to stand out. So PEARL Protected decided to mix home escape solutions to their line of security services to have a competitive edge over other companies and at the same time provide more home security solutions to the citizens.

The PEARL escape ladder is the most recent and most popular home escape device that is out on the market today. The escape ladder is permanently installed in the interior wall space below second- and third-story windows. It’s easy to use and is right where you need it when there’s a need to escape. It is also child-friendly, strong, stable, and is backed by a 15-year warranty.

PEARL Escape Ladder

This home escape solution is very handy in life-threatening situations, like in cases of fire, flooding, or carbon monoxide poisoning.

The PEARL escape ladder is out now at $299-$329. For more details, visit PEARL Protected website!

7 Home Security Tips to Live By

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007
  • Install a layered security in your home, wherein there are about three to four layers of security to either slow down a burglar or at most discourage him entirely of trying to break into your home.

  • Don’t leave a window open unless necessary. When you’re at home, you can leave a window on the second floor open, but you’ll still have to remain cautious.

  • Clean up your backyard or your lawn and make sure there is no tool present for a burglar to use in breaking into your home. These include ladders, tree branches, and many more.

  • When you’re going out, leave your home as if there’s still someone inside. Don’t draw all curtains down and don’t shut all the lights off. Empty homes are perfect victims for burglars.

  • Turn off the ring tone of your telephone when you’re away. The constant ringing of your phone will indicate that no one’s home.

  • Of course, it’s much better to have someone stay at your home when you’re away. This way, someone is really at home to watch over and you won’t have to keep the pretense that someone’s in your house even when’ there’s none.

  • Cooperate with your neighbors. Ask for their assistance whenever possible. You can ask them to collect your mail for you and watch over your home when you’ll be away for a long time.

Home Security Measures

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Having a well-lighted yard is, of course, a great home security measure. Thieves and burglars prefer the dark to avoid being identified. The problem is, this type of security is expensive and harmful for the environment. One needs to be cost-efficient (use only one or two low wattage).

Place the shielded lights in ideal positions. They should be on places where the burglar’s possible entry points are visible.

You can also use an X10 dialer that is compatible to your monitoring security system control panel. This dialer will be able to call several phone numbers and transmit an alert message incases of emergency.

Individual battery-operated sensors and detectors are also recommended. There are inexpensive models available if cost is an issue. The only disadvantage with them is that you will have to turn them on and off individually.

Wireless video camera systems are now commonly used by households. The price drop in electronic devices helped with the rise of usage of video cameras but it is mainly due to the effectiveness of the device that made it popular among residents and homeowners. Video camera systems are especially convenient when you’re using a mobile home security system.

Other home security devices you can use are the barking dog alarm system, which gives out a loud and realistic bark when someone gets near your door or window, and a device which you can hang on your doorknob and which sets off an alarm when someone jiggles the doorknob from the outside.

Locks and deadbolts are also very helpful. Despite the coming of sophisticated electronic devices, lock and deadbolts are still recommended to improve security in your home.

Thorny bushes and plants under your windows are also very helpful. Thieves and burglars would think twice in getting through the window if they don’t want to get tangled up and hurt.

Don’t leave a window open unless necessary. When you’re at home, you can leave a window on the second floor open, but you’ll still have to remain cautious.

Keep a safe deposit box for your valuables. You can also put your valuables in the bank for safekeeping, if you want.

Power timers for radios and lights give the illusion that there’s still someone at home even when no one is really present. These are very helpful when you’re always going out and you want your home protected.

The best option to have a secure home is still having a fully monitored home security system. This way, the security company’s control centers will be able to keep watch over your home and will notify you and the authorities in cases of break-ins, fire, flooding, and other emergencies.
